Through this popular course we can offer practical advice to help you make the most of the resources around your school and beyond the classroom to inspire teaching and learning within a safe environment. We call it learning without walls.

Herts Primary Science Conference

"Revitalise Your Scientific Writing with New Strategies"

Would you like to move beyond information texts and learn strategies to enhance

Supermarket Science

This practical course will provide you with new ideas for science experiments that will encourage your pupils’ curiosity and develop their understanding. It includes a bank of easy to use practical ideas that you can take away with you to enable your pupils to
conduct experiments in the fields of biology, chemistry and physics and have fun!

By the end of the session you will be able to understand the importance of engaging children in practical work that enables them to make links to everyday life, understand what working scientifically means and know what good teaching and learning in primary science looks like and have a bank of ideas to use with your class.

Pupil Led Investigations 

Children are enthused and motivated when they are involved in planning their own
enquiries and when they can see the relevance of them to their everyday life.

As the days get warmer, science can move beyond the classroom to motivate the
children through fascinating investigations in the habitat around them. The outside world enables you to create exciting activities that will inspire and engage your pupils.

Developing the Role of the Primary Science Subject Leader

Good subject leadership has a positive impact on the quality of science teaching in primary schools. You will explore a range of strategies to audit and lead science in your school, understand your role more fully and be able to identify and promote effective primary science. Gain a deeper understanding of the aims of the curriculum, develop your own subject knowledge and identify the role subject leaders’ play in developing a whole school approach to teaching science for KS1 and KS2.

Literacy and Science: Introduction

Explore the curriculum links between science and literacy and how to develop literacy skills to improve the quality of children’s written explanations in science.

You will be able to gain an awareness of the nature and breadth of opportunities for linking science and literacy, develop strategies for raising attainment in science through developing speaking, listening and writing skills to communicate scientific learning and begin to identify progression in science.

Assessment & Progression in Primary Science

Evidence shows that effective Assessment for Learning (AfL) leads to raised attainment. Now that formal recording of levels has been removed, you need to be secure in your understanding of how to make judgements about children’s achievements and progress.

You will be able to use a range of AfL strategies effectively to promote children’s learning, acquire a deeper understanding of progression and make confident and reliable teacher assessment of learning in science and identify children’s next steps.
